We are proud to offer our families the “Parents / Guardians as Partners” webinar series with Educational Consultant and Trainer Dr. Jennifer Bashant. Dr. Bashant is the founder of Building Better Futures LLC and provides a number of different opportunities for parents and educators to help children succeed in school.

This webinar series provides families, caregivers and staff access to all 10 live zoom webinars. Each session is recorded and will be available to watch for the remainder of the school year. Each live webinar will begin at 6:30 p.m.

February 25, 2025: Increase Your Child’s Confidence, Curiosity, and Creativity by Encouraging the Development of Hobbies

Hobbies, interests, and passions lie at the heart of a strengths-based approach to parenting. Discovering and developing skills and activities that light them up will help your child to build a healthy self-esteem and will increase their confidence in their abilities to solve problems. Bennett, a college student, is going to share how hobbies have added to his life growing up, then will introduce ways that you can help your child develop their own interests and passions.

March 11, 2025: Move from Helicopter Parenting to Lighthouse Parenting

One of the hallmarks of Gen Z children is that they are the center of the family. Parents/caregivers (on the whole) have placed their children’s needs in the forefront and worked hard to give them opportunities and material things that they may not have had. The extreme version of this is a tendency to rescue a child from struggle, and to hover over them, offering advice and support as needed (aka Helicopter Parenting). Jennifer will share specific strategies to move toward Lighthouse Parenting – a style of parenting that will allow your child to build resilience, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills that will serve them well as they grow.
