Caroline Street Elementary School, Lake Avenue Elementary School, and Saratoga Springs High School have been named as Recognition Schools for the 2019-2020 school year by the New York State Education Department.
Under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) plan, which emphasizes fostering equity in education, Recognition Schools are those with high academic achievement, student growth and graduation rate. In addition, a school must show continued improvement in English language arts (ELA) and mathematics progress, chronic absenteeism, English language Proficiency, and college, career, and civic readiness for high school.
“We are extremely proud of the efforts that our students, teachers, support staff, and administrators have dedicated to earn the distinction of being identified as a NYSED Recognition School,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Michael Patton. “Through the collaborative efforts of our staff and a continued focus on equity for all students, our schools have improved student learning, increased our graduation and attendance rates, and are preparing all students for college and career opportunities after high school. We appreciate the great job that everyone is doing to receive this special recognition.”
SSCSD schools were three of 582 schools statewide to receive the honor. Each school will receive a certificate of recognition from the Commissioner of Education. The complete Recognition Schools list is available on the State Education Department website.
