On April 8, portions of New York will experience a solar eclipse. To ensure the safety of our students and community, the elementary half-day originally scheduled for Friday, June 7 will be moved to Monday, April 8. The half-day dismissal time is 11:50 a.m. for elementary students. There are no changes to the middle and high school school dismissal times.
This decision was made because the peak of the solar eclipse would occur during elementary school dismissal, and we want to prioritize the safety of our students, staff, bus drivers, and families who will be on the roads during this time. Secondary students will already be at home during the peak of the solar eclipse, and afterschool activity schedules have been adjusted.
Safety is our number one priority at SSCSD, and we encourage students and families to learn about how to safely view the eclipse, which is the first total solar eclipse in New York since 1925. For more on the April 8 eclipse, please visit the NASA website. Additionally, earth science teachers from Saratoga Springs High School have created an informational video about the solar eclipse.
Thank you for your flexibility and understanding!
