The 2022 application process was led by former Lake Avenue Elementary School Principal Dr. Messier and Teacher Amy Elsworth. To be named a National Blue Ribbon School, the U.S. Department of Education requests nominations from the top education official in every state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Department of Defense Education Activity, and the Bureau of Indian Education. Nominated schools are then invited to apply and submit an extensive application for consideration. This is the second time Lake Avenue Elementary School has received the Blue Ribbon designation.
“The district is extremely proud of the hard work and collaborative efforts that our students, staff, and parents have made at Lake Avenue to receive this very prestigious award,” said Dr. Michael Patton, superintendent of schools. To be one of just 297 schools in the nation to earn Blue Ribbon designation is an incredible accomplishment. I want to thank our students, parents, teachers, support staff, Dr. Messier, and Mrs. Carroll for their commitment to excellence and empowering all students to do their very best.”
The National Blue Ribbon School award affirms and validates the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in striving for – and attaining – exemplary achievement. Additionally, National Blue Ribbon Schools serve as models of effective school practices for state and district educators and other schools throughout the nation. A National Blue Ribbon School flag gracing a school’s entryway or on a flagpole is a widely recognized symbol of exemplary teaching and learning.
