SSHS Students Spark Interest in Welding Through Advanced Materials Course

SSHS students enjoy weldingAt Saratoga Springs High School, Emma Brobston, Sonora Hanus, Ella Nacheman, and Sabrina Schroeder have discovered a passion for welding through their Advanced Materials course, taught by Mr. Zampella. Starting as strangers, they’ve become a close group of friends, collaborating and exchanging ideas daily.

Before enrolling in Advanced Materials, the students completed the prerequisite course, Materials Processing, where they were introduced to the fundamentals of working with various materials. The advanced course has since allowed them to deepen their understanding of welding, transforming small pieces of metal into functional items and unique works of art.

Emma found the experience so rewarding that she invested in her own welding equipment, eager to continue honing her skills at home. For all four students, the course has been a valuable opportunity to combine creativity and technical expertise, fostering hands-on problem-solving and innovative design.

The skills they’ve gained extend far beyond the classroom. Whether as part of their future careers or as a lifelong hobby, the students view this course as an essential part of their high school experience.
